WiAware is built to know as little about you as possible. This page covers the app, this website, and buying a license.
The app
- WiAware has no account and sends no analytics or crash reports.
- It reads your network's details from macOS, such as its name, signal, security, IP address and router, to show them to you. Your settings and a week of history are stored on your Mac and never uploaded.
- To check your connection, it makes brief connections to your router and to public addresses at Cloudflare, Google and Quad9, looks up captive.apple.com, and loads that page to spot sign-in pages. Nothing about you is sent, beyond the IP address any connection shows.
- A Full Test runs only when you ask for one. It uses macOS's own networkQuality tool, against Apple's servers.
- Location access is used only to read the WiFi network's name. WiAware never stores your location. Asking for access can make macOS send one position, which is discarded.
- Local Network access is used only to reach your router.
- Calendar access is optional. If you turn it on, WiAware reads today's and tomorrow's events to list them and remind you of them. They stay on your Mac.
- WiAware can tell that a microphone or camera is in use. It never listens, watches or records.
- WiAware isn't sandboxed. It reads which apps use the network from macOS's own nettop tool, on your Mac only, during calls and while Network Details is open. It can hide other apps during calls if you turn that on. Automation access is asked for only if you choose apps for it to quit.
- Once a day, if you leave update checks on, WiAware asks wiaware.com whether a newer version exists. That request includes the WiAware version and, like any web request, your IP address. Turn it off in Settings → General.
- WiAware keeps the date your free trial started and your license in your Mac's Keychain, so reinstalling doesn't restart the trial.
- During the free trial WiAware sends nothing about your license. When you enter a license key, it sends the key and your Mac's name, with a short code that tells your Macs apart, to Dodo Payments to activate it. After that it confirms the key with Dodo Payments once a week. Like any web request, these include your IP address.
This website
The site uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts or fonts. The hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, for security and operations.
Buying a license
Purchases are handled by Dodo Payments, which acts as the reseller (merchant of record). Dodo Payments collects your payment details, email address and billing country to process the payment, calculate tax and send your receipt and license key, under its own privacy policy. We receive your email address, name and order details so we can support your license. We never see your full card details.
